Idea: The main idea that I had for this shoot is to use my shoot photographs to create a series of images in which I follow the style of Alana Dee Haynes and create images that represent a juxtaposition between the human form and cartoon style of images, which I think I will be able to achieve by printing out my final shoot photographs and using markers to draw on them, and then use a scanner to return them back to regular computer file images.
Research Influence
In this particular shoot, I took inspiration from many different artists as I felt that this would give my image a variety of juxtaposition ideas. For this shoot, I took inspiration from John Stezaker, Naro Pinosa and a newly found artist on Pinterest known as Alana Dee Haynes. Her work is something that I would like to use in further shoots.

This image also follows closer to the style of Alana Dee Haynes.

I also used the swirls around the outside of the model and in the background to suggest some sort of thought and juxtaposition between this.
The main idea that I had and the main reason for choosing juxtaposition was that I was able to create interesting images that I would be able show fit the theme of juxtaposition. In this particular shoot, I decided to use my sister as a model and capture the juxtaposition between her feelings, looks and emotions. For example,I decided to ask her to be a model in front of a white background as this would make it easier to draw on my images when they are printed out. I decided to print them out and then scan them back on to the computer to create the cartoon look. This relates to the style of Alana Dee Haynes, which is something that I decided to do at the end of my 5th shoot as progression for the 6th shoot. For one of these images, I decided to experiment with computer drawing using a Wacom Intuos tablet for the computer. I was able to use this with photoshop to create a look similar to the images of Alana Dee Haynes.
The images that I retrieved from my time exploring the theme of Juxtaposition turned out well and I felt that overall, I captured it well and related to some of my artist influence. On this particular shoot, I felt as though that I did relate more to my chosen artist, which is Alana Dee Haynes as I drew on my original images and tried to follow in the same style as her, drawing various patterns both on the model and in the background.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
For all of the above images, I used a CANON EOS 1300D. I feel as though I am now more confident about shooting in manual mode as I know how to control aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings to be able to capture different images in my own environment to show juxtaposition. For most of these images, the flash was on as I was creating studio like images with the help of my flash and natural lighting.
In order to improve on the images that I took, I decided to import them into Photoshop in order to enhance them and improve on their composition and the way that they have been shot. In order to do this, I decided to change the contrast of some of the images and experimented with the layering and blending of some of the images. In this particular shoot and when editing the images, I mainly edited them manually and then scanned them back into my computer to create an edited effect. This relates to the style of Alana Dee Haynes, but I decided to experiment with computer drawing, using a Wacom Intuos tablet to create polka dots in the background of the image.
The screen grabs that I have selected show how I used Photoshop to create juxtaposition images. To do use this, I used the computer scanner and my own drawing to create the images, but I was able to create some images using Photoshop and the paint tool that relate to the style of Alana Dee Haynes.
Photoshop Process
The artist research that I did was extremely helpful in the fact that I was able to gain an understanding of the different artists and their different styles. Knowing about their style and about any movements they may have been involved in helps me to interpret their work and understand what they were thinking when they took a certain image, and also helps me to recreate these images in my style. Researching various images that they have created helps me to try and recreate these images and then shooting my own images in their style. For example, my research on Alana Dee Haynes and researching the images of this photographer helped me to understand juxtaposition and what types of images I could create, both in this shoot and progression to the next. I am able to then still link to their style but also reflect my own style in the process. Additionally to this, I was able to get a better understanding of juxtaposition photography and how you can use this type of photography to capture different aspects of the composition. I feel as though I did not relate enough to the photographer and I feel as though I could have related closer to my artists influence. In order to improve I could have experimented more with different colour backgrounds and experiment with black and white images to create a better effect when manipulating my images.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
Overall, I think that I have produced a good series of images inspired by my research and image bank for my fourth preparatory shoot for juxtaposition. The final images were created by manipulating them physically and converting them back into a computer image, as well as experimenting with Photoshop drawing and drawing tablets. I think if I was to improve on this, I would try and take more photographs on different background colours, as I only used a white background on this particular shoot. This would help me to have more of a variety of images to choose from when selecting my best images to edit and choose as my final images. With this shoot, I feel as though I could use different coloured backgrounds, as I have only used black and white in 5th and 6th shoot.
Progression
In my next shoot, I aim to focus my work closer to the style of Alana Dee Haynes and experiment with different colour backgrounds in order to create a better image. For my 7th and final shoot, I will be using a model and shooting in the style of the professional studio and manipulating them physically and scanning them back to electronic files. I also plan on experimenting more with computer paint on Photoshop.
